  • Ferry links

    We will be traveling by car from Sweden via Aland Island to Finland this July.
    The main ferry links between Sweden and Aland are: Kapellskär-Mariehamn or Grisslehamn-Eckerö and the main link between Aland and Finland is: Mariehamn-Turku.
    From what we know there are also several local (inter-islands) ferries.

    As we want to visit Naantali in Finland, what is the best option: to use the main connection (Mariehamn Turku) or one of the local ones(Jurmo-Kustavi for expample)? As we have rather tight schedule (arrival on Aland in the afternoon, leaving for Finland in the afternoon the very next day) there will be some time pressure. Is there a big price difference between ferry routes? And one more thing: should we have to book a cottage in advance or can we do that on Alands (the same question refers to ferry tickets)?

I think you have tried to contact us earlier by e-mail, but we did not manage to answer your mail. Our mails were returned with the information "Cannot be delivered".

Anyway, you want to find information about our local ferries. However, I would not recommend you to use the local ferries in July, because it is a very busy time of the year and the ferries are mostly fully booked. Another problem is, that you cannot book for the whole journey from the Aland Island direct to the Finnish mainland with the local ferries. You are expected to stay at least one night in the archipelago on some camp site or guesthouse, to book your journey.

So, I would recommend you to use the Viking line ferries between Aland and Turku. It is a very short way from Turku to Naantali, so that will be no problem. Please, check time table and booking information on www.vikingline.fi

You can also book a cottage through the Viking line. There is always a possibility to book cottage and ferry tickets direct here on Aland, but regarding July you cannot be sure to get a ferry ticket for exactly the day you are planning. You have to be very flexible to travel without booking in advance, but it is of course possible.
